WE HAVE A WIDE VARIETY OF ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE APPRAISED. HOW DO I KNOW IF I WILL NEED SEVERAL SPECIALIST APPRAISERS, OR WHETHER A GENERALIST APPRAISER CAN DO THE VALUATION FOR EVERYTHING?
Although a generalist appraiser is knowledgeable and experienced with a wide range of objects, there can be certain categories of objects that should be examined and valued by a specialist. We have a varied network of specialist appraisers we work with in order to support our clients’ needs.
DO YOU ONLY WORK WITH ANTIQUES?
Of course not! We work with everything from general household contents to the rare and unique.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE?
In addition to maintaining up-to-date certification in USPAP, I am a member of the Appraisers Association of America, the New England Appraisers Association and hold a Certificate of Appraisal Studies from Rhode Island School of Design.
What is USPAP?
USPAP is the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. These standards are set forth by The Appraisal Standards Board of The Appraisal Foundation. The USPAP standards are the only recognized set of standards for personal property appraisers throughout the US and Canada.
OUR FAMILY INTENDS TO KEEP ANYTHING OF VALUE IN MY DAD’S ESTATE, AND THEREFORE DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO SELL. ARE YOU STILL ABLE TO HELP US DONATE OR DISPOSE OF THE REMAINDER?
Yes. Our services are customized to fit your specific needs. Whether you only need help selling the valuables, or a cleanout team to sort, donate and discard the remainder – we are here to help.
I AM THE PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE OF MY MOTHER’S ESTATE, AND AM SOMEWHAT OVERWHELMED ABOUT THE TASK OF DIVIDING THE HEIRLOOMS AMONG 5 CHILDREN. IN SOME INSTANCES, MORE THAN ONE PERSON WANTS THE SAME ITEM. WHERE DO I BEGIN?
Preserving good relationships among siblings and still getting this part of your job done can be tricky, but is certainly achievable. This may be the only time in your life that you’ll have to do this – but something a professional appraiser experiences on a regular basis. An unbiased, 3rd party professional can provide a plan, solutions and experience to keep the process moving smoothly and cost-effectively.
A FRIEND THAT USED YOUR SERVICES GAVE ME YOUR NAME. WE ARE DOWNSIZING AND PLAN TO SELL A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF VALUABLES, INCLUDING ANTIQUES, ART, JEWELRY AND COINS. WOULDN’T WE MAKE MORE MONEY IF WE DID IT OURSELVES?
Probably not. Selling a large quantity of items is best approached by looking at the big picture. Once the valuable easy-to-sell items are sold, you lose collateral to maximize the profit on the items that are more difficult to sell. Not to mention, that you may not have access to information that would have gained you a higher sales price on those items. So in the end, you’ll most likely realize a smaller net monetary gain than if you leveraged an experienced selling agent.
